BCP: Chinese Arts & Calligraphy Exhibition > Exhibition Boards Design

Background:

The British Chinese Project (BCP) is a non-profit organisation devoted to promoting the engagement, understanding and cooperation between the Chinese community and the wider UK society.

In April 2016, the BCP organised and hosted the ‘Chinese Arts & Calligraphy Exhibition’ event in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, England. BCP came to me for six large-scale exhibition boards to educate people in the history of the Chinese Arts and Calligraphy in a friendly and social manner.

My Contributions:

There wasn’t a style guide for me to adhere to, only a Chinese bilingual logo. The design requirements for the exhibition boards from the client were fairly flexible. This made my job more interesting as I was able to use a lot of my creative juice freely. As you can see, I have kept the design simple, clean, bright and modern to keep the audience interested for a longer period.

The idea of my design for the exhibition boards is to make good use of the brush icon from the logo design and extend the black ink line (top-right) to the very end of the other side of the board (top-left) to form the basis of the ‘header graphic’ on each of the six boards.

To form a sense of balance in this design, I decided to create ‘footer graphic’ using the logos of the creators of this event in a clean and tasteful manner. The timeline at the centre of each board is clean and simple and stands out from a far distance. The corporate ‘red’ colour is coincidently used throughout the whole design, making all the boards’ look and feel uniform and professional, which is important for brand awareness and brand loyalty.

For the Evolution board design, I included a large-scale image creation job, for which I used Adobe Illustrator to produce the two tables to fit the landscape format of this board. I also created the A5 double sided leaflet and the A3 poster design to promote this exhibition.

My Achievements:

I achieved six simple, clean, bright and modern Chinese bilingual exhibition boards that were displayed at the Chinese Arts & Calligraphy exhibition and contributed to this successful event.

These exhibition boards present the history of the Chinese Arts and Calligraphy in a modern, beautiful and elegant manner. The BCP had received some positive feedback on my board designs, and they are happy with my work on this job. The guest of this exhibition also gave me positive feedback on my work. They had learnt new things through enjoying my wonderful exhibition boards design, which are both educational and social.
